Psychological aspects of Covid-19 and iGaming

As we all know, psychology is a big part of online gambling.
People go with their superstitions and with what they believe in, so their set of beliefs and values plays a big role in their decisions.
During the Corona-virus pandemic, people went back to fear and basic protective instincts, so they started stocking groceries and think about the worst, which is pretty natural and is part of our self-preservation mechanism.

From a research regarding self-preservation by Gruenewald, T. L., Dickerson, S. S., & Kemeny, M. E. (2007) called A social function for self-conscious emotions: The social self preservation theory, we can learn that there is a big social affect when human society faces existential threats.

“Our social self preservation theory asserts that self-conscious emotions, in particular, shame-related emotions, are experienced when the fundamental goal of maintaining a positive social self is threatened. We argue that situations or circumstances that threaten the social self prompt a coordinated psychobiological response, characterized by the elicitation of shame emotions and physiological processes, which provide signaling and resource mobilization functions to address such threats. As we also argue, since the protection of the social self is essential to life success, shame may be one of the most basic of human emotions.”

But, as we already know, Covid-19 is not an existential threat, nor a threat to the whole society structure as one could assume from the disastrous predictions.
So with death rates lowering world wide, and with the growing understanding that most of the Covid-19 positives are actually asymptomatic, we can loosen up a little bit and realize that it is a matter of time until we get out of this mess.
We just need to be responsible and to keep hygiene rules.

Taking that in consideration, we can look at gambling as a relaxing activity.
Imaging a picture where you are at home, you are looking on slostrush.co  for a good slots game or a nice live dealer to play against. You do so while sitting at your cozy couch in the living room, drinking nice scotch while your body relaxed, just enjoying the free time you’ve been granted.
Gambling is escapism at it’s finest.
